As we recently announced, we are working towards making Globus suitable for use with protected data and in HIPAA regulated environments. In preparation for this—and to support new features in Globus Connect Server version 5—the Globus service will undergo an upgrade on Saturday, December 9th, and will be unavailable from 10:00AM to 2:00PM CST.

In November's data center storage round-up from Chris Mellor at The Register, the Globus and Western Digital (WDC) partnership was highlighted:

WDC is partnering with Globus to integrate Globus's research data management software with WDC's ActiveScale object-based storage (OBS) system. Globus has produced an ActiveScale connector and aims to store Big Data analytics data on the WDC disk archive box.

We are changing our policy governing retention of file transfer activity data. Starting December 4, 2017, we will remove summary data for file transfer tasks older than 3 months. While metrics indicate that users rarely access this information, we will continue to allow downloading of summary usage data (up to three months old) via the transfer API. Detailed information about file transfer tasks, such as individual events, will be stored for 30 days, after which only summary data for tasks are stored.
