Globus Presentation at TechExchange: Automating Research Data Management with the Globus Platform

Time: Monday, October 16, 9:00AM-9:50AM

Primary track: Applications for Research Secondary track: Trust and Identity Globus is an established service that is widely used for managing research data on XSEDE, DOE, and campus computing resources. Recent enhancements to identity and access management functionality provide simplified access to Globus via campus logins, and facilitate the integration of Globus, XSEDE, and other research cyberinfrastructure services into web and mobile applications. In this session we will describe the Globus platform-as-a-service, currently used by institutions like NCAR to distribute reference data to climate researchers worldwide. We will demonstrate how Globus services can be accessed via REST APIs to automate common research data management tasks; how Globus identity and access management services can be leveraged by external applications; and how developers can use the Globus platform in portals, science gateways, and web applications to deliver advanced data and identity management capabilities to their research communities. A combination of presentation and demonstrations will allow attendees to develop an understanding of the platform's capabilities and how it can be used in their own work.
