Part 3 of 5: Ptychography with Ptychodus and Globus

Ptychography stands out as an advanced imaging technique for its ability to provide high-resolution characterization of a sample’s structure. However, the complexity of managing data from multiple beamlines across different facilities can pose significant challenges. Enter Ptychodus and Globus, a powerful combination that has been utilized as a common set of tools for multi-site ptychography workflows at the Advanced Photon Source (APS) and Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS), and is now being piloted at both the National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS2) and Advanced Light Source (ALS). This standardization allows researchers to specify their inputs and dispatch remote analysis tasks, regardless of the originating facility. Leveraging the capabilities of Ptychodus and Globus, scientists can now enjoy a streamlined and efficient workflow that simplifies the reconstruction process across multiple sites.
Central to this achievement is Ptychodus’ comprehensive data model and its collection of file readers that ingest the diverse data types generated by different beamlines. This tool ensures that data is standardized and ready for unified computation, utilizing advanced reconstruction libraries such as Pty-chi, PtychoPINN, and PtychoNN for phase retrieval. Ptychodus integrates with Globus Flows to launch and monitor reconstruction tasks at remote sites, providing a cohesive and automated approach to data analysis. Standardizing the workflow allows researchers to focus more on their scientific inquiries rather than the intricacies of data management. This collaboration between Ptychodus and Globus not only enhances the efficiency of ptychographic imaging but also fosters greater collaboration and data sharing among leading research facilities, paving the way for new discoveries and innovations in the field.
