Continuing Globus support for CC* Awardees in 2024

March 06, 2024   |  Vas Vasiliadis

We are delighted to announce our continued support of NSF’s Campus Cyberinfrastructure (CC*) program. We would like to congratulate the recent awardees and invite them to take advantage of a free Globus subscription for the duration of their grant.

The CC* program has been instrumental in enabling institutions of all sizes to deliver advanced data management and computation capabilities to their researchers. A critical component of robust cyberinfrastructure is the Globus platform because…

  • …it reduces friction for investigators accessing research computing and data resources, allowing them to focus on their research, and
  • …it lowers administrative overhead, allowing research IT professionals to focus on more strategic initiatives.

To help CC* awardees achieve their proposal objectives, we are making a Globus subscription available at no cost to any new CC* awardee institution that is not a current Globus subscriber. The subscription includes access to all Globus premium features for the duration of the CC* award. In addition to the widely used fast and reliable file transfer service the subscription offers awardees:

  • Secure data sharing with collaborators
  • Unified access to diverse—including cloud and archival—storage systems
  • Data description, publication, and discovery services to support data FAIRness
  • Remote computation on any system, using a common interface
  • Reliable automation of research tasks to support instruments and other large-scale data environments
  • Comprehensive monitoring and visibility for system administrators

The Globus team at the University of Chicago believes strongly that modern research IT infrastructure is essential for great science. As a not-for-profit service operated for the research community, we rely on institutional subscriptions to sustain our operations; thus, we hope that institutions will transition to a paid subscription at the end of their award. The free subscription is offered with the understanding that PIs will engage with their campus RCD and IT leaders to promote Globus usage and motivate continuing with a paid subscription beyond the end of the award.

As always, we are available to all awardees (and future program proposal submitters) to discuss best practices for research data management and computation, and how best to incorporate Globus into your proposed campus cyberinfrastructure; please contact us at outreach@globus.org. Also, be sure to sign up to attend a free informational tutorial on April 24th and our annual user conference, GlobusWorld in May.
